Even in a setting dominated by military strategy, the Mahābhārata foregrounds dharma’s tension: revered elders and teachers (Bhīṣma and Droṇa) occupy decisive roles, showing how personal duty, loyalty, and lineage obligations can bind the righteous into morally fraught conflict.
Sañjaya describes the Kaurava army’s Garuḍa-shaped battle array, specifying who holds key positions: Bhīṣma at the ‘beak’ (the forward striking point), and Droṇa together with Kṛtavarmā as the ‘two eyes’ (critical guiding/command positions).
