Bhīmasena’s Kalinga Engagement and the Approach of Bhīṣma (भीमसेन-कालिङ्ग-संग्रामः)

विदर्शयन्त: सम्पेतु: खड्गचर्मपरश्वथै: । कितने ही योद्धा ढाल

vidarśayantaḥ sampetuḥ khaḍga-carma-paraśvathaiḥ |

Sañjaya dit : Déployant leur science du combat, les guerriers se rapprochèrent—brandissant épées, boucliers et haches. Sans crainte devant l’ennemi, ils avancèrent dans la colère, les dents serrées, les lèvres pressées, et frappèrent avec des feintes longuement exercées—visant même le flanc gauche pour le fendre—puis se ruèrent tête baissée sur leurs adversaires. La scène montre comment la fureur et l’art guerrier peuvent pousser les hommes au-delà de l’hésitation, faisant du champ de bataille une épreuve de courage, de maîtrise de soi et des dures exigences du devoir des kṣatriya.
