त्रिदशा5पि समुद्युक्ता नाल॑ भीष्म॑ं समासितुम् | किमु पार्था महात्मानं मर्त्यभूता महाबला:
tridaśā api samudyuktā nālaṁ bhīṣmaṁ samāsitum | kimu pārthā mahātmānaṁ martyabhūtā mahābalāḥ ||
Sañjaya dit : Même si les dieux eux-mêmes se rassemblaient et s’employaient d’un même élan, ils ne pourraient affronter Bhīṣma au combat. À plus forte raison, comment les puissants fils de Pṛthā—simples mortels voués à la mort—pourraient-ils tenir devant ce Bhīṣma au grand cœur ? La remarque souligne le poids moral de la stature de Bhīṣma et le déséquilibre accablant que la guerre peut créer lorsque vertu, expérience et destin se rejoignent en un seul guerrier.
