भीष्मस्य शरशय्या-प्राप्तिः
Bhīṣma’s Fall to the Arrow-Bed
भीष्महेतो: पराक्रान्तश्रित्रसेन: पराक्रमी । चेकितानं परं शक्त्या योधयामास भारत
sañjaya uvāca |
bhīṣmahetoḥ parākrāntaś citrasenaḥ parākramī |
cekitānaṃ paraṃ śaktyā yodhayāmāsa bhārata ||
Sañjaya dit : «Pour Bhīṣma, le vaillant Citrāsena—lui-même puissant guerrier—s’avança avec une grande prouesse. Ô Bhārata, il engagea Cekitāna de toute sa force; et, sur le champ de bataille, un affrontement farouche s’éleva entre ces deux champions.»
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights kṣatriya-dharma expressed as steadfast loyalty and protective duty: a warrior exerts his full strength to defend his leader (Bhīṣma), showing commitment to one’s chosen obligation even amid peril.
Sañjaya reports that Citrāsena, fighting on Bhīṣma’s behalf, attacks and engages Cekitāna with full force, leading to an intense duel between the two warriors on the battlefield.
