विमृद्नतस्तस्य तु पाण्डुसेना- मस्तं जगामाथ सहस्नररश्मि: । ततो बलानां श्रमकर्शितानां मनो<वहारं प्रति सम्बभूव,भीष्म पाण्डव-सेनाको जब इस प्रकार रौंद रहे थे, उसी समय सहस्रों किरणोंसे सुशोभित भगवान्‌ सूर्य अस्ताचलको चले गये। उस समय परिश्रमसे थकी हुई समस्त सेनाओंके मनमें यही इच्छा हो रही थी कि अब युद्ध बंद हो जाय

Transliteration

sañjaya uvāca |

vimṛdnatas tasya tu pāṇḍusenām astaṃ jagāmatha sahasraraśmiḥ |

tato balānāṃ śramakarśitānāṃ mano nivāraṃ prati sambabhūva ||

Translation

Sañjaya dit : Tandis que Bhīṣma écrasait ainsi l’armée des Pāṇḍava, le Soleil aux mille rayons commença à se coucher. Alors, parmi toutes les troupes—accablées par la fatigue—naquit un même élan : le désir de retenir le combat et d’y mettre un terme pour l’heure. Le vers montre comment le rythme de la nature et les limites de l’endurance humaine brident même la fureur de la guerre.
