तथा त्रीणि सहस्राणि त्रेतायां मनुजाधिप । दे सहस्रे द्वापरे तु भुवि तिष्ठति साम्प्रतम्,मनुजेश्वर! त्रेताके मनुष्योंकी आयु तीन हजार वर्षोकी बतायी गयी है। द्वापरके लोगोंकी आयु दो हजार वर्षोकी है, जो इस समय भूतलपर विद्यमान है
tathā trīṇi sahasrāṇi tretāyāṁ manujādhipa | dve sahasre dvāpare tu bhuvi tiṣṭhati sāmpratam || manujeśvara ||
Sañjaya dit : « Ainsi est-il proclamé, ô seigneur des hommes : dans l’âge de Tretā, la vie humaine est de trois mille ans ; dans l’âge de Dvāpara, elle est de deux mille — et c’est cet âge qui demeure à présent sur la terre. »
