सनातनस्य धर्मस्य मूलमेतत् सनातनम् | श्रूयन्ते हि पुरा वृत्ता विश्वामित्रादयो नृपा:,यही धर्म है, यही महान् योग है, दान, प्राणियोंपर दया, ब्रह्मचर्य, सत्य, करुणा, धृति और क्षमा--ये सनातन धर्मके सनातन मूल हैं। सुना जाता है कि पूर्वकालमें विश्वामित्र आदि नरेश इसीसे सिद्धिको प्राप्त हुए थे
sanātanasya dharmasya mūlam etat sanātanam | śrūyante hi purā vṛttā viśvāmitrādayo nṛpāḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana dit : «Telle est la racine éternelle du Dharma éternel. Oui, selon la tradition ancienne, on rapporte que des rois tels que Viśvāmitra et d’autres, en vivant selon ce fondement même, obtinrent l’accomplissement spirituel.»
