Chapter 57
वैशम्पायन उवाच उत्तड़कस्तु तथोक्त: स जगाम भरतर्षभ | मदयन्तीं च दृष्टवा स ज्ञापयत् स्वप्रयोजनम्
Vaiśampāyana uvāca: Uttaṅkastu tathoktaḥ sa jagāma bharatarṣabha | Madayantīṃ ca dṛṣṭvā sa jñāpayat svaprayojanam ||
Vaiśaṃpāyana dit : «Ô taureau parmi les Bharata, lorsque le roi eut parlé ainsi, le sage Uttaṅka se rendit auprès de la reine Madayantī. En la voyant, il lui fit connaître le but de sa venue.»
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights purposeful action and proper communication: after receiving instructions, Uttaṅka proceeds directly to the appropriate person (the queen) and clearly states his objective—an ethical model of duty-bound conduct without concealment or delay.
Narratively, Vaiśampāyana reports that Uttaṅka, following the king’s words, goes to Queen Madayantī and tells her why he has come, advancing the episode connected with Uttaṅka’s mission.
