The verse highlights the ethical priority of restoring harmony within a fractured family and polity: true success is not merely victory, but the fulfillment of a responsible hope—bringing about reconciliation among kin for the welfare of the Bharata line.
Vaiśampāyana addresses a younger interlocutor affectionately, recalling his long-held expectation that this person would help unite the Kauravas and Pāṇḍavas, and he asks whether that expectation has now been successfully realized for the Bharatas.
