अभिपूजितलाभाद्धि विजुगुप्सेत भिक्षुक: | भुक्तान्यन्नानि तिक्तानि कषायकटुकानि च,मान-प्रतिष्ठाके लाभसे संन्यासीको घृणा करनी चाहिये। वह खाये हुए तिक्त, कसैले तथा कड़वे अन्नका स्वाद न ले

abhipūjitalābhād dhi vijugupseta bhikṣukaḥ | bhuktāny annāni tiktāni kaṣāyakaṭukāni ca ||

Vāyu dit : «Le mendiant doit éprouver du dégoût pour les gains qui viennent d’un honneur et d’une célébration particuliers. Qu’il n’accepte pour nourriture que ce qui a déjà été mangé—des aliments amers, âpres ou piquants—afin de ne pas s’attacher au goût, au confort ni à la quête de rang. La leçon morale est que le renonçant doit se garder de l’orgueil et du prestige social, qui enchaînent l’esprit aussi sûrement que la richesse.»
