वर्णतो गुणतश्चैव योनितश्वैव तत्त्वतः । सर्वमेतत्तमो विप्रा: कीर्तितं वो यथाविधि,विप्रवरो! वर्ण, गुण, योनि और तत्त्वके अनुसार मैंने आपसे तमोगुणका पूरा-पूरा यथावत् वर्णन किया
varṇato guṇataś caiva yonitaś caiva tattvataḥ | sarvam etat tamo viprāḥ kīrtitaṃ vo yathāvidhi ||
Vāyu-deva dit : «Ô brāhmaṇas, je vous ai maintenant exposé—dûment et dans l’ordre convenable—le compte rendu complet du tamas, selon le varṇa (ordre social), selon les guṇa (qualités), selon la yoni (naissance ou origine) et selon sa réalité profonde (tattva).»
