सप्तहोतृ-विधानम् एवं इन्द्रिय–मनःसंवादः

The Seven Hotṛs and the Debate of Senses and Mind

काष्ठानीवार्द्रशुष्काणि यतमानैरपीन्द्रियै: । गुणार्थान्‌ नाधिगच्छन्ति मामृते सर्वजन्तव:

kāṣṭhānīva ārdraśuṣkāṇi yatamānair api indriyaiḥ | guṇārthān nādhigacchanti mām ṛte sarvajantavaḥ ||

L’Esprit dit : «De même que des morceaux de bois—humides ou secs—n’‘éprouvent’ rien par eux-mêmes, de même tous les êtres vivants, quand bien même leurs sens s’efforceraient et se dépenseraient, ne peuvent saisir véritablement les objets des sens et leurs qualités sans moi. C’est l’esprit qui donne sens au contact sensoriel ; sans lui, l’effort et les organes demeurent inertes.»
