Vāsudeva’s Upadeśa: The Inner Enemy and the Indra–Vṛtra Precedent (आत्मशत्रु-बोधः; इन्द्र-वृत्रोपाख्यानम्)

धराहरणदुर्गन्‍न्धो विषय: समपद्यत | शतक्रतुश्नुकोपाथ गन्धस्य विषये हते

dharāharaṇa-durgandho viṣayaḥ samapadyata | śatakratuś ca kupito ’bhūt gandhasya viṣaye hate, nareśvara |

Vāyu dit : «Lorsque la Terre fut saisie, une puanteur se répandit partout. En des temps anciens, Vṛtrāsura avait soumis la Terre entière à son pouvoir ; et quand Indra vit que Vṛtra avait usurpé la Terre et emporté jusqu’au “domaine du parfum”, le Seigneur des cent sacrifices (Indra) fut saisi d’une grande colère, ô roi. Cet épisode montre comment la violation de l’ordre légitime — s’approprier ce qui soutient l’harmonie du monde — attire le blâme divin et devient la cause d’un désordre ressenti par tous.»
