Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Counsel on Royal Policy to Yudhiṣṭhira

Educational Q&A

Even a controversial warrior-king can be portrayed as receiving a posthumous reward—here, heavenly joy—when sanctioned by revered Brahmins; the verse highlights the narrative tension between moral judgment and the tradition that valor and ordained destiny can lead to heavenly attainment.

Vaiśampāyana reports that, with the approval/blessing of eminent Brahmins, the subject (understood in context as Duryodhana with his followers) is said to attain heaven and rejoice there, indicating closure and a form of reconciliation in the post-war moral landscape.
