अध्याय ९ — धृतराष्ट्रस्य युधिष्ठिरं प्रति राजनित्युपदेशः
Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Counsel on Royal Policy to Yudhiṣṭhira
तैरियं पुरुषव्याघ्रैविद्याबाहुबलान्वितै:
tair iyaṃ puruṣavyāghrair vidyā-bāhu-bala-anvitaiḥ
Vaiśampāyana dit : Par ces hommes pareils à des tigres—pourvus de science, de bras puissants et de vigueur—cette entreprise fut menée à bien, attestant que l’aptitude, jointe à la discipline et au savoir, devient l’instrument de l’acte juste selon le dharma.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
True excellence is not mere force: the verse praises men who combine learning (vidyā) with strength and prowess (bāhu-bala), implying that power guided by understanding is fit to serve dharma.
Vaiśampāyana describes an action or undertaking (iyam) being accomplished through the agency of outstanding heroes, characterized as ‘tigers among men’ and noted for both knowledge and strength.
