Adhyāya 9: Pratiśruta-Dāna

The Duty to Fulfill Promised Gifts

स एव हि यदा तुष्टो वचसा प्रतिनन्दति । भवत्यगदसंकाशो विषये तस्य भारत

sa eva hi yadā tuṣṭo vacasā pratinandati | bhavaty agada-saṅkāśo viṣaye tasya bhārata ||

Bhīṣma dit : «Ô Bhārata ! Ce même brāhmaṇa, satisfait par l’accomplissement de ses espérances et par les honneurs qui lui sont dus, lorsqu’il répond par des paroles d’approbation—en donnant sa bénédiction au roi—devient, pour le royaume de ce roi, tel un médecin : une présence qui guérit, dont la bienveillance protège et rétablit la prospérité du pays.»
