Pitṛ-śrāddha-haviḥ-phala-nirdeśa
Offerings for Ancestors and Their Stated Results
जलेचर: क्लान्तमनास्तेजसाग्ने: प्रदीपित: । उवाच देवान् मण्डूको रसातलतलोत्थित:
jale-caraḥ klānta-manās tejasā agneḥ pradīpitaḥ | uvāca devān maṇḍūko rasātala-talotthitaḥ ||
Bhīṣma dit : Une grenouille, créature des eaux, brûlée par la chaleur flamboyante d’Agni et lasse au cœur, remonta des profondeurs de Rasātala et s’adressa aux dieux. (Dans le fil du récit, les dieux — avides et pourtant craintifs de contempler Agni — sont approchés par cet être en détresse, qui devient la voix inattendue qui leur parle.)
