Suvarṇa-dāna: Kārttikeya’s Origin and the Defeat of Tāraka (सुवर्णदान-प्रसङ्गे कार्त्तिकेय-उत्पत्ति तथा तारकवधः)
युरभ्युवाच वरेण भगवन् महां कृतं लोकपितामह । एष एव वरो मेडद्य यत् प्रीतोडसि ममानघ
surabhī uvāca—bhagavan, niṣpāpa lokapitāmaha! mama vara-grahaṇasya kācid āvaśyakatā nāsti. mama tu sarvottamo vara eṣa eva yat adya tvaṁ mayi prasanno 'si, anagha.
Surabhī dit : « Ô Seigneur bienheureux, ô Grand-Père des mondes, sans péché ! Je n’ai nul besoin de demander une grâce. Pour moi, la plus grande grâce est celle-ci seule : qu’aujourd’hui tu es satisfait de moi, ô irréprochable. »
भीष्म उवाच
The verse elevates inner grace over external rewards: the highest ‘boon’ is not a material grant but the approval and goodwill of a righteous/divine authority, gained through purity and humility.
Surabhī addresses Lokapitāmaha (Brahmā). When offered a boon, she declines any specific request and declares that his present satisfaction with her is itself the supreme boon.
