Educational Q&A

The verse teaches that dāna done with completeness and propriety—giving a healthy milch cow together with its calf and respectfully adorned—constitutes a meritorious act of dharma that yields honor in an auspicious heavenly realm (Sūryaloka).

Vasiṣṭha is describing the फल (result) of a specific charitable gift: donating a red-colored milch cow with a matching calf, covered with cloth. He states the donor attains honor in the realm of the Sun, illustrating the Mahābhārata’s broader instruction on gifts and their karmic outcomes.
