Go-mahātmyam: Pavitrāṇāṃ Pavitraṃ
Cows and Ghee as Supreme Purifiers
This line functions as a colophon, situating the chapter within the Mahābhārata’s ethical instruction on dāna (charitable giving). By naming the dāna-dharma section and the topic of the cows’ origin, it frames the preceding material as guidance on righteous generosity and its sacred context.
The speaker’s line marks the formal close of the chapter: it identifies the larger book (Anuśāsana Parva), the sub-section (dāna-dharma), and the chapter’s theme (the account of the origin of cows), concluding the seventy-seventh adhyāya.
