The verse underscores that higher realms and extraordinary experiences are accessed under cosmic order and moral governance—here symbolized by Yama’s permission—implying that vision of such regions is not random but connected to dharma and sanctioned authority.
Bhishma narrates a visionary journey in which he witnesses wondrous landscapes—milk-flowing rivers, mountains, ghee, and pure waters—and states that, with Yama’s consent, he was shown many previously unseen regions.
