भूमिप्रदानात् पुष्पाणि हिरण्यनिचयास्तथा । आज्ञा सदाप्रतिहता जयशब्दा वसूनि च
bhūmipradānāt puṣpāṇi hiraṇyanicayās tathā | ājñā sadāpratihatā jayaśabdā vasūni ca ||
Bhīṣma dit : Du don de la terre naissent des récompenses de bon augure — des fleurs (symboles d’honneur et de joie), des monceaux d’or, une autorité dont l’ordre n’est jamais contrarié, des cris de victoire, et des richesses de toutes sortes. Dans l’horizon moral de l’Anuśāsana Parva, ce vers loue le don de la terre comme un dāna éminent, qui affermit l’ordre social et la juste stature du donateur.
भीष्म उवाच
Land-giving (bhūmi-dāna) is extolled as a highly meritorious charity that yields both material prosperity and social-political efficacy—honor, wealth, and an authority that faces no obstruction—thereby reinforcing dharma and stability.
In Bhishma’s instruction on dharma (Anushasana Parva), he enumerates the fruits of specific gifts; here he lists the rewards attributed to donating land, presenting it as a superior form of dāna with tangible and reputational outcomes.
