Dāyavibhāga (Inheritance Apportionment) and Household Precedence — Dialogue of Yudhiṣṭhira and Bhīṣma

प्रजा न हीयते तस्या रतिश्ष भरतर्षभ । अतोडन्‍्यथा वर्तमाना भवेद्‌ वाच्या प्रजापते:

prajā na hīyate tasyā ratiś ca bharatarṣabha | ato 'nyathā vartamānā bhaved vācyā prajāpateḥ ||

Bhishma dit : «Ô taureau parmi les Bharata, en un tel cas, la descendance de cette femme n’est pas tenue pour amoindrie en dignité, et son union (avec cet homme) n’est pas jugée blâmable. Mais la femme qui agit à l’encontre de cette voie juste devient répréhensible aux yeux de Prajāpati (le Seigneur des créatures), car elle s’écarte de la règle de conduite prescrite.»
