A dharmic protector should remove fear from the vulnerable: offering ‘abhaya’ (fearlessness) is a moral act of guardianship, compassion, and responsibility.
Bhīṣma addresses a frightened person with affectionate, poetic descriptions and reassures them, explicitly granting protection and safety (abhaya).
