वैशम्पायन उवाच
Dharmic practice includes disciplined recitation of sacred hymns; sincere praise (stotra-pāṭha) is presented as a means to obtain Śiva’s favor and auspicious well-being.
Within Vaiśampāyana’s narration, Vyāsa addresses his ‘son’ (contextually a revered addressee such as Yudhiṣṭhira in many recensions) and urges him to recite the hymn so that Maheśvara (Śiva) may become pleased with him.
