This line is a colophon marking the close of a chapter devoted to praising dharma, situated within the broader instruction on dāna (charitable giving). It signals that the ethical emphasis of the surrounding discourse is the commendation of righteous conduct, especially generosity as a dharmic duty.
Rather than advancing the story, the verse functions as an editorial/structural closure: it announces the end of the 164th chapter within the Dāna-dharma portion of Anuśāsana Parva in the Mahābhārata.
