Educational Q&A

A householder should actively use sanctioned protective means—here, a prescribed set of names/formulae—to guard not only personal and familial well-being but also economic and life-sustaining resources (wealth, seeds, medicines).

In Bhīṣma’s instruction section of the Anuśāsana Parva, he specifies the practical scope of a protective rite: it is to be applied for safeguarding oneself, one’s family, property, and essential resources like seeds and medicinal herbs.
