Ethical discipline has a twofold fruit: by abandoning harmful actions and cultivating virtuous ones, a person gains well-being here (ihaloka) and a favorable destiny hereafter (svargati).
Maheśvara (Śiva/Mahādeva) is instructing (addressing Devī in the surrounding context) by stating the results of moral restraint and virtuous practice: worldly happiness and heavenly attainment.
