Śiva-nāmānukīrtana-prastāvaḥ

Prologue to the praise of Śiva and the Upamanyu testimony

अनेककटिपादश्न अनेकोदरवकक्‍्त्रधृक्‌ । अनेकपाणिपार्श्श्ष अनेकगणसंवृत:

aneka-kaṭi-pāda-śna anekodara-vaktra-dhṛk | aneka-pāṇi-pārśva aneka-gaṇa-saṁvṛtaḥ ||

Vāsudeva dit : «Il est aux formes multiples : ses hanches et ses pieds sont nombreux ; il porte d’innombrables ventres et visages. Ses mains et ses flancs sont tout aussi innombrables, et des cohortes d’assistants l’entourent de toutes parts.» Dans son contexte, le vers évoque l’effroi sacré devant une présence surhumaine aux membres innombrables, et rappelle la leçon morale : la puissance et les apparences du monde sont passagères, tandis que la vraie vénération se tourne vers l’ordre divin qui embrasse tous les êtres.
