Praise of the ‘Mental Tīrtha’ and the Marks of Purity
The verse presents the ethical idea that meritorious conduct yields elevated posthumous results: one gains radiant, divine status—access to higher realms, freedom of movement, and celestial enjoyments—symbolizing the fruition of dharma.
Bhīṣma is describing the heavenly attainment of a virtuous person: he reaches the realms of the Vasus, shines like the sun, moves at will, partakes of ambrosia, and rides in a splendid vimāna—an image of divine reward.
