उपवासफलात्मकविधिः — Upavāsa as Yajña-Equivalent Merit

उपोष्य विधिवद् देवास्त्रिदिवं प्रतिपेदिरे । ऋषयश्न परां सिद्धिमुपवासैरवाप्रुवन्,देवताओंने विधिवत् उपवास करके ही स्वर्ग प्राप्त किया है तथा ऋषियोंको भी उपवाससे ही सिद्धि प्राप्त हुई है
Aṅgirā uvāca |
upoṣya vidhivad devās tridivaṁ pratipedire |
ṛṣayaś ca parāṁ siddhim upavāsair avāpuḥ ||
Aṅgirā dit : «En observant le jeûne selon la règle, les dieux atteignirent Tridiva, le monde céleste. De même, les ṛṣi, par le jeûne, obtinrent l’accomplissement suprême.»
अंगियरा उवाच
That fasting (upavāsa), when performed vidhivat—properly and in accordance with dharma—functions as tapas (austerity) that purifies and becomes a means to higher attainment, exemplified by both gods (heaven) and sages (supreme siddhi).
Aṅgirā is instructing by citing authoritative precedents: the devas reached heaven and the ṛṣis gained high spiritual success through disciplined fasting, thereby recommending regulated upavāsa as a dharmic practice.
