Praise of Ācāra as the Basis of Longevity, Fame, and Prosperity
भुज्जानो मनुजव्याप्र नैव शंकां समाचरेत् । दधि चाप्यनुपान वै न कर्तव्यं भवार्थिना
bhuñjāno manujavyāghra naiva śaṅkāṁ samācaret | dadhi cāpy anupānaṁ vai na kartavyaṁ bhavārthinā puruṣasiṁha |
Bhīṣma dit : «Ô tigre parmi les hommes, en mangeant on ne doit pas nourrir de doute au sujet de la nourriture. Et, ô lion parmi les hommes, celui qui recherche son propre bien ne doit pas boire de caillé comme boisson de fin de repas.»
भीष्म उवाच
Maintain mental steadiness and propriety during meals—do not indulge suspicion about what you are eating—and follow disciplined dietary conduct; for one seeking well-being, curd is not recommended as the concluding drink after eating.
In the Anushasana Parva’s instruction on dharma and right conduct, Bhishma continues advising Yudhishthira with practical rules for daily life, here giving etiquette/health-oriented guidance connected to eating.
