Āloka-dāna (Dīpa-dāna), Sumanas–Dhūpa–Dīpa Phala: Manu–Suvarṇa and Śukra–Bali Exempla
सुवर्णस्त्वब्रवीद् वाक््यं मनुं स्वायम्भुवं प्रति । हितार्थ सर्वभूतानां प्रश्न॑ मे वक्तुमहसि
suvarṇas tv abravīd vākyam manuṃ svāyambhuvaṃ prati | hitārthaṃ sarvabhūtānāṃ praśnaṃ me vaktum arhasi ||
Bhishma dit : Suvarṇa s’adressa à Manu Svayambhuva en ces termes : « Pour le bien de tous les êtres, tu dois répondre à une question de ma part. Quelle est donc cette pratique par laquelle on rend un culte aux dieux avec des fleurs ? Comment est-elle entrée en usage ? Quel en est le fruit, et quel en est le juste dessein ? Dis-moi tout cela. »
