Duḥṣanta–Śakuntalā: Gandharva Marriage and Succession Condition
सर्वे वेदविदश्नैव राजच्छास्त्रे च पारगा: । सर्वे संग्रामविद्यासु विद्याभिजनशोभिन:,राजन! वे सब-के-सब वेददवेत्ता, शास्त्रोंके पारंगत विद्वान, संग्राम-विद्यामें प्रवीण तथा उत्तम विद्या और उत्तम कुलसे सुशोभित थे
sarve vedavidaś caiva rājaśāstre ca pāragāḥ | sarve saṅgrāmavidyāsu vidyābhijanaśobhināḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana dit : Tous connaissaient les Veda et étaient pleinement accomplis dans la science du gouvernement ; tous étaient habiles dans les arts de la guerre, et ils brillaient par un savoir raffiné et une naissance noble—qualités qui les rendaient dignes de respect au conseil comme au combat.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
True excellence in leaders is portrayed as a union of sacred learning (Veda), practical statecraft (rājaśāstra), and disciplined martial skill, further ennobled by cultivated conduct and reputable lineage—suggesting that power should be guided by knowledge and responsibility.
The narrator Vaiśampāyana describes a group (previously introduced in the surrounding passage) as exceptionally qualified: learned in scripture and governance, trained in warfare, and socially distinguished—setting their stature and credibility within the unfolding events.
