Ādi-parva Adhyāya 33: Vāsuki’s Council on Averting the Sarpa-satra
तमुवाचाव्ययो देवो वरदो5स्मीति खेचरम् । स वत्रे तव तिछेयमुपरीत्यन्तरिक्षग:,अतः उन अविनाशी भगवान् विष्णुने आकाशचारी गरुडसे कहा--मैं तुम्हें वर देना चाहता हूँ।' अन्तरिक्षमें विचरनेवाले गरुडने यह वर माँगा--'प्रभो! मैं आपके ऊपर (थ्वजमें) स्थित होऊँ"
tam uvāca avyayo devo varado 'smīti khecaram | sa vavre tava tiṣṭheyam uparītya antarīkṣagaḥ ||
Śaunaka dit : Le Seigneur divin, impérissable, s’adressa à Garuḍa qui parcourt les airs : « Je suis dispensateur de grâces. » Garuḍa, voyageur du ciel, choisit ce don : « Seigneur, permets que je demeure au-dessus de toi, établi comme ton emblème. »
