Garuḍa–Śakra Saṃvāda and the Retrieval of Amṛta (गरुड–शक्र संवादः अमृत-अपहरण-प्रसङ्गः)
स तद्विनाशसंत्रासादभिपत्य खगाधिप: । शाखामास्येन जग्राह तेषामेवान्ववेक्षया,तपस्यामें तत्पर हुए उन ब्रह्मर्षियोंको वटकी शाखामें लटकते देख गरुडने सोचा -- इसमें ऋषि लटक रहे हैं। मेरे द्वारा इनका वध न हो जाय। यह गिरती हुई शाखा इन ऋषियोंका अवश्य वध कर डालेगी।” यह विचारकर वीरवर पक्षिराज गरुडने हाथी और कछुएको तो अपने पंजोंसे दृढ़तापूर्वक पकड़ लिया और उन महर्षियोंके विनाशके भयसे झपटकर वह शाखा अपनी चोंचमें ले ली। उन मुनियोंकी रक्षाके लिये ही गरुडने ऐसा अदभुत पराक्रम किया था
sa tadvināśasaṃtrāsād abhipatya khagādhipaḥ | śākhām āsyena jagrāha teṣām evānvavekṣayā ||
Saisi d’effroi à l’idée de leur perte, le seigneur des oiseaux (Garuḍa) fondit et saisit la branche de son bec, gardant son attention fixée sur ces sages mêmes. Il agissait par crainte que la branche tombante ne tuât les ascètes qui y étaient suspendus, et il les protégea ainsi de tout mal.
