Ādi-parva Adhyāya 3 — Janamejaya’s Rite, Dhaumya’s Parīkṣā, and Uttanka’s Kuṇḍala Quest (सर्पसत्रप्रस्तावना–गुरुपरीक्षा–उत्तङ्कोपाख्यान)
उवाच चैनं वत्सोत्तड़क कि ते प्रियं करवाणीति । धर्मतो हि शुश्रूषितो5स्मि भवता तेन प्रीति: परस्परेण नौ संवृद्धा तदनुजाने भवन्तं सर्वानिव कामानवाप्स्यसि गम्यतामिति,और बोले--*बेटा उत्तंक! तुम्हारा कौन-सा प्रिय कार्य करूँ? तुमने धर्मपूर्वक मेरी सेवा की है। इससे हम दोनोंकी एक-दूसरेके प्रति प्रीति बहुत बढ़ गयी है। अब मैं तुम्हें घर लौटनेकी आज्ञा देता हँ--जाओ, तुम्हारी सभी कामनाएँ पूर्ण होंगी”
uvāca cainaṁ vatsottadaka ki te priyaṁ karavāṇīti | dharmato hi śuśrūṣito 'smi bhavatā tena prītiḥ paraspareṇa nau saṁvṛddhā | tad anujāne bhavantaṁ sarvān iva kāmān avāpsyasi gamyatām iti |
Et il lui dit : « Cher Uttaṅka, quel service souhaites-tu que j’accomplisse pour toi ? Tu m’as servi selon le dharma ; ainsi l’affection réciproque entre nous s’est accrue. À présent je t’accorde congé : retourne chez toi. Tu obtiendras tous les buts que tu désires ; va. »
