Ādi-parva Adhyāya 3 — Janamejaya’s Rite, Dhaumya’s Parīkṣā, and Uttanka’s Kuṇḍala Quest (सर्पसत्रप्रस्तावना–गुरुपरीक्षा–उत्तङ्कोपाख्यान)
स॒ एवमुक्त उपाध्यायेनेष्टं देश जगाम । अथापर: शिष्यस्तस्यैवायोदस्य धौम्यस्योपमन्युर्नाम,उपाध्यायके इस प्रकार आशीर्वाद देनेपर आरुणि कृतकृत्य हो अपने अभीष्ट देशको चला गया। उन्हीं आयोदधौम्य उपाध्यायका उपमन्यु नामक दूसरा शिष्य था
sa evam ukta upādhyāyenaiṣṭaṃ deśaṃ jagāma | athāparaḥ śiṣyas tasyaivāyodasya dhaumyasyopamanyur nāma |
Ainsi admonesté et béni par son maître, Āruṇi—sa tâche accomplie—partit vers le lieu qu’il désirait. Puis le récit se tourne vers un autre disciple de ce même précepteur, Ayoda-Dhaumya : un élève nommé Upamanyu.
