Janamejaya uvāca: kimarthaṁ śārkukān agnir na dadāha tathāgate? tasmin vane dahamāne brahman etat pracakṣya me.
Janamejaya dit : «Pour quelle raison Agni ne brûla-t-il pas les oiseaux Śārkuka lorsqu’il vint en ce lieu ? Quand cette forêt était dévorée par le feu, ô brahmane, explique-le-moi.»
