Sundopasundayor Digvijayaḥ — The Conquests of Sunda and Upasunda

Nārada’s Account

Educational Q&A

Bhishma frames political prudence as dharma: avoid needless war with rightful heirs, and uphold justice by recognizing shared ancestral claim—hence, make peace and grant a fair share of the kingdom.

Bhishma counsels the Kuru side that he does not favor fighting the Pandavas; instead he urges a treaty (sandhi) and the granting of half the realm, emphasizing that the Pandavas too are legitimate inheritors of the Kuru kingdom through their father and ancestors.
