इहैव वर्तमानास्ते समीपे तव पार्थिव । अजातपक्षा: शिशव: शकिता नैव बाधितुम्,वीर! पहले भी तुमने अनेक गुप्त उपायोंद्वारा पाण्डवोंको दबानेकी चेष्टा की है, परंतु उनपर तुम्हारा वश नहीं चल सका। भूपाल! वे जब बच्चे थे और यहीं तुम्हारे पास रहते थे, उस समय उनके पक्षमें कोई नहीं था, तब भी तुम उन्हें बाधा पहुँचानेमें सफल न हो सके
ihaiva vartamānās te samīpe tava pārthiva | ajātapakṣāḥ śiśavaḥ śakitā naiva bādhitum ||
Karna dit : «Même lorsqu’ils vivaient ici même, tout près de toi, ô roi—simples enfants, les “ailes” pas encore poussées, sans aucun parti pour les soutenir—tu n’as pas pu leur nuire ni les opprimer. Déjà auparavant tu as tenté bien des ruses secrètes pour tenir les Pāṇḍava en bas, mais tu n’as pas réussi à les mettre sous ta coupe.»
