Ādi Parva, Adhyāya 193 — Hastināpura Mantra: Duryodhana’s Proposals to Divide the Pāṇḍavas
ते तत्र वीरा: परमासनेषु सपादपीठेष्वविशड्कमाना: । यथानुपूर्व विविशुर्नराग्रया- स्तथा महार्हेषु न विस्मयन्त:
te tatra vīrāḥ paramāsaneṣu sapādapīṭheṣv aviśaṅkamānāḥ | yathānupūrvaṃ viviśur narāgryās tathā mahārheṣu na vismayantaḥ ||
Vaiśaṃpāyana dit : Là, ces héros—les premiers parmi les guerriers—sans hésitation ni trouble, entrèrent et prirent place, selon l’ordre convenable, sur les plus beaux trônes, d’un grand prix, munis de marchepieds; ils ne montrèrent aucune surprise, comme il sied à des nobles rompus à la discipline.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Nobility is shown through restraint and propriety: the eminent do not become dazzled by luxury, and they follow due order and decorum without arrogance or hesitation.
The heroes enter the assembly area and sit on the finest seats with footstools, taking their places according to proper sequence (seniority/arrangement) and without showing surprise at the grandeur.
