Even before open conflict begins, adharma often starts as private counsel shaped by envy and insecurity; when leaders normalize deceitful plotting, they erode moral order and invite ruin for themselves and their realm.
This line functions as a chapter-ending colophon, identifying the text’s location: the Ādi Parva, the lac-house episode (Jatugṛha), specifically the chapter centered on Duryodhana’s consultation/deliberation.
