The Birth of Kṛpa and Kṛpī; Kṛpa’s Attainment of Astras
अक्लिष्टं फलमव्यग्रो विन्दते बुद्धिमान् नर: । तस्मिन् दृष्टे फले राजन् प्रयत्नं कर्तुमहसि
akliṣṭaṃ phalam avyagro vindate buddhimān naraḥ | tasmin dṛṣṭe phale rājan prayatnaṃ kartum arhasi ||
L’homme sage, demeurant sans distraction, obtient un fruit qui ne s’acquiert ni par la souffrance ni par un effort nuisible. Voyant un tel fruit, ô roi, tu dois t’y consacrer avec un zèle sincère.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Focused, undistracted effort guided by wisdom leads to wholesome results; recognizing the value of such outcomes, one should commit oneself to purposeful endeavor.
Vaiśampāyana addresses the king and offers counsel: a wise person attains beneficial results through steady, unagitated focus, and therefore the king should undertake the necessary effort after recognizing the promised fruit.
