Pāṇḍu’s Funeral Rites and Public Mourning
प्रियया सह संवासं प्राप्प कामविमोहित: । त्वमप्यस्यामवस्थायां प्रेतलोक॑ गमिष्यसि,तुम भी जब कामसे सर्वथा मोहित होकर अपनी प्यारी पत्नीके साथ समागम करने लगोगे, तब इस--मेरी अवस्थामें ही यमलोक सिधारोगे
priyayā saha saṃvāsaṃ prāpya kāmavimohitaḥ | tvam apy asyām avasthāyāṃ pretalokaṃ gamiṣyasi ||
Le cerf dit : «Quand, submergé et abusé par le désir, tu connaîtras l’union intime et vivras auprès de ton épouse bien-aimée, alors, dans cet état même —comme moi— tu iras au monde des morts, au royaume de Yama.»
मृग उवाच
Desire that overwhelms discernment leads to negligence and can cause sudden downfall; therefore restraint and awareness are essential even in legitimate household life.
A deer, speaking from its own fatal experience, warns another (implicitly a human listener) that becoming completely infatuated with sexual union and domestic pleasure can result in death and passage to the realm of the departed, just as it happened to the deer.
