Even amid political acts like securing a royal marriage, dharma is shown through intention and conduct: Bhīṣma treats the women under his charge with the protective respect due to daughters-in-law and younger sisters, emphasizing guardianship, restraint, and responsibility.
Bhīṣma, identified as the son of Gaṅgā, brings the daughters of the king of Kāśī to the Kuru realm so that his brother Vicitravīrya may marry, and he keeps them under honorable protection as if they were his own family.
