Mukti-tattva Upadeśa: Knowledge as the Direct Cause of Liberation
Lord Vishnu (speaking to Garuda/Vinata-putra)
Concept: Tṛṣṇā (craving) and rāga-dveṣa (attachment/aversion) ‘cook’ the jīva into vulnerability; sense-indulgence accelerates mortality’s grip.
Vedantic Theme: Kleśa theory in practice: rāga-dveṣa and tṛṣṇā bind the mind; viveka and vairāgya are prerequisites for freedom from fear of death.
Application: Observe craving as a piercing impulse; reduce sensory overindulgence; practice pratyāhāra, moderation, and mantra/meditation to cool rāga-dveṣa.
Primary Rasa: bibhatsa
Secondary Rasa: bhayanaka

This verse treats tṛṣṇā as the piercing force that makes a person vulnerable—craving drives repeated entanglement in sense-objects, which culminates in being overtaken by Death.
By portraying rāga and dveṣa as a fire that “cooks” the person, the verse implies that unresolved passions shape one’s condition at death, influencing the post-death journey described in the Preta Kanda.
Reduce compulsive indulgence, watch attachment/aversion, and cultivate restraint and clarity—so that life is not “fueled” by sense-objects and dominated by fear at the time of death.
