Lord Vishnu (in dialogue with Garuda/Vinatā-putra)
Concept: Upasana through dik-sevana: honoring deities in their appointed directions as limbs of the Lord’s sacred order.
Vedantic Theme: Ishvara as the center; devatas as functional manifestations within a unified sacred cosmos (ekatva through vyavahara).
Application: In worship, mentally or physically circumambulate the altar/pitha and offer namaskara to the southern and western guardians before central worship, cultivating steadiness and auspiciousness.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Type: sacred seat/mandala orientation
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 3.24.88-91 (continuation of pitha-directional devata mapping)
This verse teaches that specific deities are honored in specific directions around the sacred seat, implying that ritual completeness and protection are gained by aligning worship with prescribed spatial order.
By prescribing obeisance to Durgā in her fierce protective aspect and to Kāmadeva as a presiding lord of health, the text links ritual devotion with safeguarding the practitioner’s welfare.
During pūjā, one may mindfully offer salutations to protective and well-being-bestowing deities, keeping the worship orderly (by direction) and focusing on inner discipline and health-supporting conduct.
