Veṅkaṭācala Māhātmya: Bhakti-Lakṣaṇa, Nārasiṁha-tīrtha, and the Secret Darśana-Vidhi of Śrīnivāsa

Lord Vishnu (speaking to Garuda)

Concept: Hari is aprākṛta (beyond material nature) and svatantra (independent); the jīva is dependent/bound; it is erroneous to imagine any incompleteness in Hari’s knowledge, bliss, or qualities.

Vedantic Theme: Īśvara-jīva-bheda (distinction) and pūrṇatva of Bhagavān; rejection of doctrines that diminish divine attributes; alignment with theism-centered Vedānta (bhagavad-guṇa-pūrṇatā).

Application: Hold a consistent theology in practice: worship with confidence in the Lord’s completeness; avoid speculative views that reduce God to a limited entity; study śāstra under guidance to refine understanding.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: raudra

FAQs

This verse stresses that the dependent soul (jīva) is eternally distinct from Hari, who is beyond material nature and fully independent—an essential foundation for devotion and right understanding of liberation.

It describes Hari as aprākṛta (non-material), svatantra (independent), and paripūrṇa (complete) in knowledge and bliss, rejecting any claim that His divine qualities could be lacking.

Cultivate humility and devotion by recognizing one’s dependence, and avoid reducing the Divine to human limitations; this supports steadiness in dharma, prayer, and ethical living.
