Lord Vishnu (in instruction to Garuda/Vinata-putra, presenting a protective vidya)
Concept: Protection of property and social order via apotropaic mantra; restraint (stambhana) as control of disruptive forces.
Vedantic Theme: Śakti as operative power within māyā; siddhi is instrumental, not ultimate; true security is inner steadiness.
Application: As cultural text: reflects protective rites; ethically, prefer lawful protection and community safety; interpret ‘stambhana’ as curbing harmful impulses.
Primary Rasa: raudra
Secondary Rasa: vira
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.178 (cora-vāriṇī/stambhana vidyā cluster)
This verse presents it as a practical protective mantra—recited (japa) one thousand times—to ward off thieves and to ‘stambhana’ (immobilize) harmful influences.
Rather than describing the soul’s journey, this passage belongs to the Purana’s applied ritual/mantra layer—teaching protective rites used in worldly life to prevent harm and disorder.
It emphasizes disciplined repetition (japa), reverence for divine forces, and the ethic of protection without aggression—using prayerful restraint and self-control as the first response to fear and insecurity.
